26.2 for Nolan
Thank you for visiting my Children's Champion page. Did you know the purpose of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & ½ Marathon is to raise funds to support life-saving research and care? Nationwide Children’s Hospital is committed to treating all children regardless of their family’s ability to pay, which cannot be achieved without community support and generosity. I am participating in the race for this mission and I am determined to help children from all 50 states and more than 60 countries treated at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Won’t you join me in helping kids everywhere?
Why I'm running-
10 weeks pregnant- I went for ultrasound and doctor explained that they couldn't see the heartbeat. They told me to come back in a week but to prepare for the worst....I prayed...I went back a week later and the little heart was beating and everything looked great!
20 weeks pregnant-I went in for another ultrasound and found out we were having another BOY! However some test results showed a high risk for a neural tube defect and that he was at a high risk for spina bifida. I also had placenta previa. They wanted me to go to Columbus for a level II ultrasound....I prayed (after losing it)... They ran a bunch of tests in Columbus and said he was a healthy growing boy! They were going to watch the previa but that should probably fix itself.
23 weeks pregnant- I went to the ER because of bleeding...I prayed...bed rest for a few days but everything was fine.
24 weeks pregnant-I went back to Columbus for another ultrasound, it showed that the previa was not going to fix itself and that I would have to deliver early. They wanted to see me back in 4 weeks but Nolan continued to grow and was healthy.....I prayed
28 weeks pregnant-I got another positive ultrasound-healthy baby-previa still an issue but baby looked great and was growing...continued to pray.
32 weeks pregnant- I Columbus again and this time the news wrecked us. Somewhere between 30 and 32 weeks Nolan had a brain bleed. They weren't sure why but said they wanted me to go to Children's for an MRI because it looked like he might have hydrocephalus....I prayed (as did our friends/family our church and many other churches in the surrounding area)... MRI showed a brain bleed and an enlarged ventricle but only time would tell if he developed hydrocephalus.
35 weeks pregnant- I went in for another ultrasound and they said go home and pack your bags and come back to Columbus. We were going to deliver within the next couple days because the previa was worse....I prayed...at 35 weeks 3 days we had a beautiful baby boy who did not have to be admitted to the NICU and was able to go home with us after only 3 days. He acted like a full term baby and his brain bleed was stable.
We have to take Nolan to Children's Hospital every 3 months for an MRI. They continue to stay on top of his case and things are looking great. He may or may not have to have surgery in the future but I feel confident in the care that he is receiving. Developmentally, he continues to thrive. Children's Hospital has been amazing with him. They also know how to handle a very nervous and worried mama! There have been many calls, emails and tears shared with Nolan's neurologist and nerurosurgeon. Children's Hospital is an amazing place and they have been so very helpful to my family. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I continue to rely on my faith and Children's Hospital. Thank you for all you do!
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
